How I Turned My Hobbies Into Income

How I Turned My Hobby Into Income

This is what life looks like for most people:

  • wake up late

  • hit snooze a few times

  • dread going to work

  • drives 15-20 minutes to work

  • work 8 hours

  • Gets off; more drained

  • sit in traffic for 15 minutes

  • eats fast food for dinner

  • get high all day

  • sleep

  • repeat

This type of life should scare the absolute dog shit out of you. This type of "life" should be a lifestyle you avoid at all cost.

This "life"- which is not really living in the slightest- will leave you robbed of pleasure, joy, fulfillment, and purpose. We have to always keep in mind that we as a people are a people of purpose.

We thrive off the things that thrill us or bring some sort of reward.

We're constantly seeking to live a life that gives us a sense of purpose while also ding something we enjoy.

Modern society has lead you to believe that freedom can be obtain by going to school for 4 years, putting yourself in debt, and working for someone else for the rest of your life to pay off that debt just to accumulate more.

They lied to you.

They lied to all of us. The American dream isn't real & it never has been.

Stop thinking that one day "everything will workout" because it won't if you continue to follow the same old system.

The only way things will ever workout is taking matters into your own hands. Taking accountability.

Take ACTION!

You already have what you need to live a life of purpose, freedom, and fulfillment and it all start with the hobbies you're already indulging in.

Taking Notice to Your Interest

When I was in high school, I was always obsessed with freedom & evolution but I never knew that what I was doing was going to be the medium to take me there.

My biggest interest for the longest of time has always been Martial Arts & Fitness. Martial Arts was how I literally made sense of my world as well as a coping tool for so many different moments in my life.

Fitness was a means to deal with my insecurities as well as take that "first step" into evolving physically as a human being.

The one other hobby I had that I didn't know would be the one to help me make income was writing.

Writing was always a personal interest of mine, I never really shared it with others, but my teachers & classmates throughout school always complemented my writing whenever I had to present a writing assignment.

Everything never made sense to me until I was a Senior in high school when I took a business class and my teacher asked us ONE question that changed my life:

"If you couldn't do your passion today, what business would you build around that instead?

That's when I noticed the big "AHA Moment".

I said to myself, "I'll just monetize my lifestyle"

How Did My Hobbies Make Money?

I got my first steps in making income with my hobbies by teaching boxing & kickboxing lessons after school for around $5-$15 for 30 minutes.

This was actually a cool little hustle for a minute in high school. I didn't have to market or promote it too much because most people in school already knew my as the "Karate Kid" or "Ty the Boxer."

Looking back, those nicknames were hilarious.

Word of mouth spreads quickly, especially from people that always want to try you like shit sweet.

The second time I made money of one my hobbies was back in 2018 during my first, and last, semester of college.

I actually never wanted to go to college, but my moms made me go. I started using my time there in the gym every day.

Some days I would be in the weight room for 2 hours then leave to my boxing gym down the street for another 3 hours.

I was working out so much and at the time I was still ambition about starting a fitness brand that I decided to start making workout videos on Instagram.

I made workout videos, daily fitness challenges, and even gave nutrition advice just to build my following.

Eventually in 2019, shortly after leaving the Army, I officially started my personal training business in my Mom's garage and started training clients that summer.

As time went on, I wanted an easier & more affordable way to train my clients because I noticed getting to training and being able to pay for it was a common issue, so I started making workout plans in forms of PDFs.

I started promoting & selling those PDFs on Twitter & Instagram anytime someone asked me about training.

This was my first taste at creating my own digital product.

How Can You Get Started Today?

Now before I even tell you HOW to start making money from your hobbies I need to be very very clear with you about one thing;

THIS SHIT DO NOT HAPPEN OVER NIGHT!

You're going to have to put in some type of work if you want to scale your hobbies to be profitable as well.

Yes you can make money off your hobbies, essentially monetizing your lifestyle, but you also have to treat it as a real business if you wish to scale it into something greater.

So here's the steps. Just 3 things:

  1. Start a Newsletter/Blog: This will essentially be the "home" of your business where you can build an email list of people that you can give value to on a weekly basis. You can also use your newsletter as a means to sell & market your products/services to your audience directly.

  2. Start a YouTube Channel/Podcast: You need to voice your interest and passions. I promise you there are people that are interested int the same things you are and chances are, the knowledge you have can possibly help them out on there journey as well. On top of that, in the long run you can monetize your podcast and YouTube through sponsorships, affiliate marketing, and running ads on your content.

  3. Write an E-Book: An E-Book is the easiest way to productize your knowledge and sell it online. We live in an age where information is the most valuable thing a person can obtain and its also easier to obtain now as well. Take the knowledge you have on your experiences, ask yourself how can this knowledge can be used as a solution to solve a problem that others may have, then structure it in a way that gives a person a step by step framework to solve their problem.

So Whats The Word Rasta Man?

We can achieve a life of freedom and purpose by just mazimizing the skills and hobbies we alreaady have within our arsenal.

The limit to how much money you can make is capped by your ability to sell, market, and solve other peoples problems.

You have to always remember that making money off your hobbies is to help you live a life thats more rewarding for you but at the same time you have to know that it is your experience in those hobbies that is going to be of value to other people.

By sharing your experiences, interest, and knowledge with others you can make money, either on the side or full time, while aslo living the life you been asking for!
